[character turnaround]

Here we go! This is the tentative colour scheme. I really like it, but I still have no idea how the backgrounds are gonna look, so it might change.

EDIT: Because we're looking at blogs in the Toon Boom class right now--more concept art!

  1. Nice! This is a nice balance between the older and the younger versions.

Although, now that you've moved her ear, it kind of looks like she has a bald spot in the profile and 3/4 back. I'd put a tuft of hair behind her ears, just in those two views, or you could just move the ear back to it's original spot.

  2. Her proportions are nice. She's round enough to be a kid but she's not overly chubby. She's short enough to be the age you picked too.

You are going to hate that knee band aid and the dinosaur clip by the end of the animation. They are just the right size to be forgettable while you are working. If you want to keep the dinosaur, I'd suggest putting it on the front of her dress instead.

  3. I agree with Careen...the little girl needs more hair behind her ear to avoid that cancer patient look. (Unless you want to make the story even sadder.)

The sock, bandaid, and dinosaur are great details that make her a specific character, not just any cute little girl. You may consider removing one if you think it'll be obnoxious to animate, but if you feel adventurous, go for all of them. I like that the bandaid suggests she's been gotten into trouble before.

  4. If you get tired of drawing it, you can have her lose the dinosaur clip down the well halfway through the film.

  5. I also agree with Sydney. You may want to consider changing the dinosaur clip to a hair band? The band aid is a nice touch, but will be a headache to animate. What are your thoughts about a nose? Would you consider some sort of line there? It seems a little odd to me that she is lacking a nose but retains all of her other features.

    Very cute!
